Captivate Me – A Poem of Reflection

I received this meditation including the poem from Ann Mauritia D’cruz. I don’t know Ann, but the email I received impressed me enough to ask for and received her permission to include it on Everyday Christianity.  Ann learned of the song from a fellow intercessor of hers and evidently saw the Letter from Bill inspired by the same song. You can find that letter here.

If you are not familiar with the song, I pray you will take the time to read this poem and my letter, where you can listen and be captivated as we are.

Ann writes:

My new home faces a lake and the one thing that captivates me is the view of the sun rising and the reflection of the colors on the lake.  It is a beautiful sight.  It gives me the assurance that the Lord is watching over me.

I have never heard of a prayer “Captivate us, Lord Jesus”.  I looked up for the meaning of the word “captivate”.  It means “To attract and hold by charm, beauty, or excellence.” I asked the Lord to help me write a poem for Him on this word “Captivate”.  But the poem became the prayer of my heart.  Oh, I pray that you, too, will be captivated.

Captivate Me – A Poem by Ann Mauritia D’cruz

Captivate me, Jesus – With the beauty of Your holiness

So I will behold with my very eyes

The splendor of Your glory

To stand in awe of Your Name

Captivate me, Jesus – With Your undying love

So in loving I will let go of those I love

Allowing You captivate their hearts

To draw them close to You

Captivate me, Jesus – With Your light

So I will walk as children of light

Shining forth as Your beacon of truth

To guide the lost weary wonderer back to You

Captivate me, Jesus – With Your Word

So I will discern my own heart

Not looking back to the past

To finish the course set for me

Captivate me, Jesus – With You

So my heart will desire no other

Letting me then to serve You

Filled with Your love, zeal and fervor

Captivate me Lord Jesus – just please don’t let me go

Psalm 36:7-9 (Amplified Bible)

7How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge and put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. 8They relish and feast on the abundance of Your house; and You cause them to drink of the stream of Your pleasures.  9For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light.
